Data Sources
Manage state-level GBIF checklist datasets. Assigned checklists control taxonomy resolution on species pages — pulling in synonyms, misapplied names, and accepted names to build a complete set of taxon keys for occurrence and phenology queries. The published-checklist survey below tracks which states have a statewide bee list in print, and imports the ones GBIF also carries as a dataset.

Published State Checklists
The statewide bee checklists that exist in the published literature. Most are a PDF or a journal article, so there is nothing to ingest from them directly. Match GBIF searches for a checklist dataset covering that state's bees and, on a hit, files it under Current Assignments as a GBIF checklist. Import Source files the publication itself and reads it: it fetches the document, pulls the species names out of it, and matches them against our species table on name, status and parentage. Names that match nothing are listed for review, never created — these are scanned appendices, and their near-misses would enter the taxonomy as new species.
